01 / THE COMMISSION

A short reading. A portrait-led social.

Working with Loftus Media, I filmed Elizabeth McGovern at Wardour Studios for a BBC Radio 4 social promo for This Is the Door.

06 BBC FINISH

Branding + subtitles

Selected performance takes became a concise portrait-led edit. The BBC’s own finishing responsibilities remained separate.

02 / SONY FX3 PORTRAIT FILMING

Keep the setup attentive to the reading.

At Wardour Studios, I filmed Elizabeth delivering a short direct-to-camera reading.

Framing and light were kept composed and attentive to the performance, with takes and book cutaways captured for the edit.

CAPTURE

Performance takes + book cutaways.

PREPARE

Timecoded selects + dialogue sheets.

REVIEW

Strong full takes + alternative lines.

The source preparation made the strongest material easy to review before shaping the final social cut.

03 / PERFORMANCE-LED EDIT

Two takes. One continuous reading.

SOCIAL RUNTIME

≈24 sec

I joined two takes into a continuous reading and shaped the pacing around a short social runtime.

The cut was tested with and without a guide music track. The final direction remained music-free.

EDITORIAL DIRECTION

Let the performance carry the piece.

04 / PICTURE EDIT + GRADE

Refine the image. Protect the mood.

A baseline grade established the look. Review then refined the frame without pulling attention away from Elizabeth’s performance.

PICTURE

Baseline grade

FRAMING

Composition + crop refinements

CUTAWAYS

Placement within the reading

FINISHING

Vignette refinements

The aim was a composed portrait-led social, with the picture treatment supporting the reading.

The background is the studio photograph, not a colour-grade comparison or a frame from the final edit.

05 / SOUND REPAIR

A small source. A careful integration.

After the picture cut, the production received a phone recording of the corrected pronunciation of “Steinke”, rather than a new full read.

01 / CLEAN

Prepare the replacement recording.

02 / MATCH

Align tone, timing and room feel.

03 / REFINE

Check the blend and level across V1, V2 and V3.

Timecoded and high-resolution review files made the final sound pass straightforward to assess.

This was a precision repair within this commission, not a promise that every recording can be repaired or that specialist work is included in the entry offer.

06 / BBC RADIO 4 DELIVERY

Ready for transmission. Clear finishing roles.

The finished social was ready ahead of its first Radio 4 transmission.

YOHAN / FILMED STORY + FINISH

Graded picture. Repaired sound.

My delivery focused on the filmed story, picture treatment and precise audio repair.

BBC RADIO 4 / OWN FINISHING

Branding + subtitles.

The BBC planned to add its own branding and subtitles; those tasks remained with its team.

The distinction is part of the brief, not a reduction in the care given to the film.

07 / WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR PROJECT

A contributor-led social that needs care?

I can take the work from capture through editorial shaping, picture grade and sound repair to a review-ready film.

How filming + finishing is scoped

The £350 mobile-social entry offer, excluding VAT, covers up to two hours at one location, including setup and wrap; one film up to 60 seconds, approved captions, one format and one amendment round.

Sony FX3 production, expanded picture work and specialist sound repair are quoted around the brief. This case study is not presented as a £350 package.
